Parade And Park Pics

It goes without saying that I have a hate/hate relationship with my camera and its batteries.  When I manage to take a picture they turn out pretty good.  But when I manage to do something wrong which is just about every time I use it I lose pictures never to be recovered again.  This year I managed to lose the first 16 pictures while changing the batteries and memory stick.  Do I know how I managed this feat, of course not.  Do I think it will happen again.  Of course it will.  For a camera that is suppose to be point and click it has more menus than the operating system on my computer.

Anyway, here are the parade pictures that I managed to get and a few from the park later in the day.

If you wish to see a larger view just click on the picture.  Use the back button to return to the whole post.

I must say that this year, turn out sucked. Actually, this whole thing was a disappointment. Guess most people went to Redfield for Old Settlers. Can’t say I really blame them since I myself ventured over there for the first time this year. They have much more scheduled that appeal to many more people and actually sound like FUN.

These last 5 or so years, Good Egg Days has gone downhill. It’s always the same thing year after year after year. It gets boring. Unless you like flea markets or are a little kid that can play on the inflatable “rides,” there is nothing to do, especially if you are a part of the teenage/20s crowd.

When I was young, the town was full of people from Friday morning until Sunday night. You didn’t bother driving anywhere near the park because you just couldn’t get through and during the parade, all the streets along the route were packed with people. Now, the park vendors start packing their stuff up Saturday afternoon and everyone is gone by night. It’s sad.

The festival needs to be updated and maybe we can get the crowds back that came 10-15+ years ago. Bring back cruise night and the watermelon feed, get a decent carnival with proper rides, and maybe have bands both Friday and Saturday night that play music of the present day. Don’t get me wrong, I like Stone Thro but I would also like to hear music that wasn’t popular 20+ years ago. Like the activities, it’s the same songs year after year after year. Redfield had North of Grand last night. They are awesome. Why can’t we get someone like that?

I think it’s time the chamber get more input from the younger generations and start thinking more creatively while planning for Good Egg Days 2010. Or, maybe a new group entirely needs to plan the event.

Dont be part of the problem try being part of the soultion. Get involved. It takes volunteers to put things like this together. Nobody wants to do the laymans work of volunteering in the preliminary phases of getting the ball rolling. Get out there and say your piece to those that count and get involved.

      Signed overly involved already

I would suggest that you voluneer to head up the committee next year.
I enjoyed the Good Egg Celebration this year and appreciate all the work that the Chamber has done to promote Stuart.

5:11 p.m. join the chamber and voulunteer and help out since you have so many ideas. As far as old settlers being better I bet it wasn’t Saturday night. At about 10 p.m. a swarm of people showed up that were in Redfield and said it sucked over there. Stone Thro had a good crowd. I thought Stuarts prarde was the best I’ve seen in a few years. The kids appeared to be having fun with the blow up rides that were there.

If you’re a beer drinker, betcha had a real good time…Nate probably did pretty well. The only good thing was those kids playing their hearts out at the soccer field. Peg, you’re right.
