A Clearer Picture Of One Proposed Site
By Peggy Schlichter
To provide a better look of the site that was addressed at the council meeting here is a look at a city map that shows the lots in question.
The area addressed is between the Varley Law Office and the Alley. It is west of the Tennis Courts. There was some confusion on identifing the exact location at the council meeting and was hard to decipher on the recording.
After driving up to take a look at the area and re-listening to the recording this is the best that I can do.
And yes, I am terrible at freehand writing on-screen.

so, it is the SE section of the Sw 1/3 of lots located on 2nd street and main and the alley. Right?

Peg
while i was surfing the net, i see where there are federal grants for BUILDING GREEN.
do you know if the City has checked into these grants for the LIBRARY, CITY HALL, POLICE DEPT?
Maybe they should be working on this for the future of this city.

citizen – In a nut shell……
if you remember they formed a committee to study the possible solutions to the ada problem. that resulted in the masonic temple recommendation. then neal decided to see if the library could be pushed over to the school for inclusion in their bond issue and that fell through. the council asked for a new building cost estimate comparable to the sq ft of the masonic temple. the council realized that they could get new for about the same price as renovating the temple so decided to go new.
the committee had three meetings in 6 months. the second meeting still opted for pushing the temple. the third was to recommend that they go with a new building and see of the library could be co-located with the school. the committee was then disbanded. the only other efforts made were to have the city call property owners to see if they were willing to sell and what their price was. one has responded as announced at the last council meeting.
so… no, i sincerely doubt that they are working on any grants for green construction.

Talk about a rip-off of fellow taxpayers, the owner must think he has prime property for 57K. That’s pretty near where they are having the water problems at the school and not too long ago had to dig up the corner at 2nd and Main. Has anyone been out to NAPA s new building. It is wonderful! In floor heat and lots of room. What comparable sq footage of the temple are they looking at? Just the amount of room they actually had laid out to use or the whole building?
