The New Us, The Voices of Stuart

Welcome to the new blog site.

I have some exploring to do to familiarize myself with all the functions that wordpress offers.  There is definitely a learning curve to overcome.  There are so many new features to explore.

To be upfront about the new blog I would like to say that this is not “my” blog.  My ego is not tied to it.  It is not a vanity thing for me.  In my mind it is a “community affair” to allow a free discussion of topics and opinions among interested people.  It is a tool to help foster a better undertanding of events that color our lives, politics and community.

As always what I publish here is my opinion only.  I make no demands that everyone must agree nor should it be taken that my mind cannot be changed.  It can with discussion and reasoning.

There are a few things that should be remembered.

1.  No “name calling”  or “anonymous intimidation” is allowed.  I do not care how sound your comment is, if it involves name calling or intimidation, it will not be posted.  Remember if you want your opinion to matter and be taken seriously use discussion and reason.

2.  Lies, innuendo and rumor should be avoided at all costs.  While it is impossible to weed out all instances if something slips through and you realize it for what it is just let me know and it will be removed.

3.  Comment moderation is on for now.  After we get going awhile I will consider removing it.  Unfortunately, the sins of the few have formed my judgement on this.

I would like each of you to consider getting a screen name.  It is not mandatory but it would definitely help in following discussions.  Pick something that is neutral or commonplace and register it.  Don’t pick something that you are known for or a known nickname.  Use a fruit or vegetable name, the name of a tree or fish, anything that floats you boat is fine and allows you to maintain your anonymous identity.  Please consider it.

That is it for now.  I need to do some more exploring here.

i need a tag line to go under The Voices of Stuart headline. does anyone want to suggest one?

  2. thevoicesofstuart said,

i am going to try out several layouts over the next couple of days to find one that is easy on the eyes.

while i liked the first one it was to difficult to distinguish the different areas.

if you see one you particularly like let me know.

Looks good. Let me know if you need any wordpress help.

  6. thevoicesofstuart said,

    thanks nate. i will.

Isn’t Nate a nice young man? I really have made this my priority blog to read, but Nates is my second favorite. Sometimes I do go to his first though.

    re:
1 maybe 2 new homes yet have allowed raw sewage to overflow all over the ground

Has the city been notified of this problem? If yes, with no action taken, then maybe the DNR should be contacted

  9. thevoicesofstuart said,

yes he is. i finally got to meet him yesterday.

  10. thevoicesofstuart said,

hey me – this is a known problem for years and years. dnr was called again this year. the city says they are going to try something but it hasn’t happened yet.

  11. another anon said,

Now really Peg, raw sewage is not a concern. Getting a trail is priority. Uh hum.

Peg, your blog stats counter is messed up. When I came to the page it said there was 732 hits. I looked around, hit refresh and it jumped to 737. I hit refresh again then it jumped back to 735. You might want to look into getting a different one. Just thought I’d let you know.

  13. thevoicesofstuart said,

i saw that happen earlier this evening also. i will have to do some checking and see what is happening. thanks for the heads up.

Tag Line? In order to cover more than city government, how about. Stuart, Iowa, Our TOWN, STATE, WORLD, & Humor.

  15. thevoicesofstuart said,

9:24 am – i like your suggestion for the tag line too. i think i will wait a little longer and see if anyone else has any suggestions before deciding.

  16. taylormaid said,

Well, I kind of like the light blue addition, but the comments and other info you have to scroll down for. Are you able to use widgets to move things around?

  17. thevoicesofstuart said,

taylormaid – each template is different. some different configureations than others. the search goes on. other than the sidebars they are not changeable with out buying the option to design your own. i will keep looking though.

I like the new voice layout alot. The Independent Eye was often hard to read with the different colored backgrounds.
    Nice job setting it up.

  19. thevoicesofstuart said,

thanks, this is the best template i have found yet. it seems to be working pretty good.

  20. taylormaid said,

Now that I’ve gotten used to reading this one, I believe it is the best one yet. It has date and time, and # of comments. It does not have the total count meter and I like that also. I believe that is an ego thing and I noticed, or at least couldn’t see one on Nates either. This is just fine, unless you find one where the index would be at the top side.

  21. thevoicesofstuart said,

taylormaid – i like this one also. after looking through the selection several times this one seems to have enough of the right stuff without being to crowded.

i never really like the count meter either and after removing it i realized that i wasn’t missing it. i never really used it for anything.

what do you think on the tag lines submitted so far? they are at 8th @ 4:24 pm and 10th @ 9:24 am. or can you think of a different one? i am leaning towards the 9:24 am one.

  22. taylormaid said,

Both are very credible. The 8th at 4:24 sounds very close to something I’ve heard before. The 10th seems to open it up to a broader area and might make those who comment, or would like to, a bit more comfortable.

  23. [...] Stuart blogs are dropping like flies. First the Independent Eye changed hands and became Voices of Stuart, and now the Life of TLC is calling it [...]

The Voices of Stuart….Let’s face it, there’s nothing better to do.

  25. thevoicesofstuart said,

hey little stinker….are you as bored as i am tonight? tv is not interesting, if i start reading this early i’ll be asleep in an hour then up at 2 am still bored.

i know of no cure for this evening…..

  26. pragmatist said,

OK, here we go!! Did anyone besides me notice the red ink in the school budget? To the tune of almost $1.2mil.! How is that going to be paid?
When is the next vote and what are the details?
Do we just get 2weeks notice and no information and are supposed to make an informed decision as always?
    Where is the site?
Is it a different one or the same one guaranteed to be defeated?
It’s totally strange to me how some important school board meetings with broad scopes of subjects can only last minutes. They should be taking hours or else it tells me the decisions are already done ahead of time and the bulk of the board just shakes their collective head YES!
As a matter of fact, if that is what is happening, I believe that is illegal. It is to be an open, public forum with discussion in that manner, not behind closed doors and the topics merely voted on with decisions already made.
I would appreciate some information from anyone caring to chime in.
If a vote is going to be 6 months after march 27th then that really isn’t that far off!
One last question—who amongst you got a 4.75 or 4.8% raise??
Oh, that’s right, the teachers did!
Way to go board and then have red ink on the balance sheet!!
Do I hear new board members?
    Sure hoping so!!
